Ca. AD 1200 - 1500.A group of four bronze hawking bells with conical body. The bell on the left has a cross shaped loop, decorated on the lower edge with a moulded low relief and a gothic inscription. The design of hawking bells varied, but they generally consisted of a hollow, bell-shaped body with a small clapper inside. They were often intricately decorated, featuring engraved or embossed designs, patterns, or inscriptions. Some hawking bells were adorned with decorative motifs reflecting the styles of the period. While others, had the coat of arms or initials of their owners, serving as personal or family identifiers.Size: 25-40mm x 20-40mm; Weight: 45gProvenance: Prince collection, 1990s-2014, acquired in 2010 from a UK private collection formed in the 1970s to 1990s.
