Apollo Art Auctions is proud to announce the ?Fine Ancient Art & Antiquities? auction taking place on the 15th of December. The auction will showcase a wide selection of excellent Egyptian, Roman, Greek, Viking, Medieval, Western Asiatic, and more antiquities ranging from 50th century BC to 15th century AD. The sale will be held at our central London showroom, 63 ? 64 Margaret Street, W1W 8SW, and online via the Apollo Art Auctions platform at 3 p.m. GMT. The wide range of antiquities is coming from the collections of Alison Barker (1951 ? 2021), Mrs. B. Ellison, W. Benson Harer, Drexel Institute, Minneapolis Institute of Art, Nahum Goldmann (1894 ? 1982) Shlomo Moussaieff (1923 ? 2015), Dr. Guido Goldman, (1937 ? 2020). Highlights include, an Egyptian Wooden Bust of Pharaoh with Bronze Cobra, an exceptional piece from the New Kingdom. An Attic Red-Figure Kylix with Central Satyr ? a large example, previously published in Sotheby's London, Catalogue of Antiquities May 17, 1983. A Greek Gold Ring with a Griffon and Hunting a Horse ? Stunning Greek jewellery, an iconic hunting scene and a Stunning Chalcidian Bronze Helmet displaying a vibrant patina and fine detail, worn in ancient Greece during the 4th and 5th century AD. SUMERIAN CLAY TABLET
Ca. 2100 - 1500 BC.A petite clay tablet with a lightly convex obverse face, and rounded peripheries. The tablet displays seven full lines for each side of inscribed cuneiform text made by impressing a sharpened reed or stick into the still-wet clay before being placed inside a kiln. Cuneiform was generally a pictographic style of writing in its infancy, though it became a more abstract style of letter-based script around the 3rd millennium BC.Size: 35.2mm x 29mm; Weight: 25.26gProvenance: Private UK collection; previously acquired on the French art market in the 1990s.
