The auction boasts strong provenances, coming from collections of Axel Guttmann, Nahum Goldmann, Joseph Klein, Countess Adelheid Lanckoronska, Elie Borowski, Marilynn Alsdorf, Mr. & Mrs. Carl Tautenhahn, the Estate of Elliott Golub, Winnetka, Alison Barker and Mrs B. Ellison. EGYPTIAN BRONZE HEAD OF A CAT
Late Period to Ptolemaic Period, Ca. 664 - 30 BC. A bronze feline head with upright ears, deep-set eyes, a defined nose with whisker pads, and a closed mouth. The patina is a mottled green, typical of aged bronze. The head is mounted on a square, off-white marble pedestal. For similar see: The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Object Number: 40.5. Size: 120mm x 65mm; Weight: 855g. Provenance: Private UK collection; Ex. private French collection, in the 1970s; Ex. Patrick Decllerck, Auction, France, sale no. 775, 2014.This item has been cleared against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter. This piece is accompanied by an authentication statement by Simone Musso, consultant curator for Egyptian antiquities at the Stibbert Museum, Florence, Italy, member of the Nuri Archaeological Expedition.
