Apollo Art Auctions is proud to announce the ?Fine Ancient Art & Antiquities ? The Prince Collection? sale. Commencing on the 26th of January at 1 p.m. GMT. The auction showcases a spectacular array of antiquities from the Egyptian, Roman, Greek, Viking, Medieval and Western Asiatic cultures ranging between 6000 BC to 1600 AD. The sale will be held live at our Central London showroom, 63 ? 64 Margaret Street, W1W 8SW, and online via the Apollo Art Auctions platform. The auction boasts items from the Prince collection from lot 1 to lot 261, as well as other incredible provenances such as the collections of Jacques Carre, Naji Asfar, Eric Strobel, Georgia Chrischilles, Louis-Gabriel Bellon, Khawam brothers, Kurt Flimm, Leo Mildenberg, Xavier Guerrand-Hermes, Gaston Maspero Archaeological Fund, Elsa Bloch-Diener, Mrs B. Ellison, Sir Roger Moss and the Thalassic Collection. EGYPTIAN LAPIS LAZULI STOPPER OF CANOPIC JAR WITH HUMAN-HEADED IMSETY
New Kingdom, Ca. 1279 - 1152 BC. A lapis lazuli stopper from a canopic jar. It is carved in the form of the human-headed deity Imsety, one of the Four Sons of Horus. Canopic jars were used to store and protect the internal organs of the deceased during mummification. The jar with an Imsety stopper would typically hold the liver. This piece is accompanied by a modern custom-made stand. Size: 150mm x 60mm; Weight: 210g. Provenance: Prince collection, 1990s-2014; Ex. Nagel Auktionen Sale 50T, 27 May 2008, Lot 3416. This item has been cleared against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter. This piece is accompanied by an authentication report by Simone Musso, consultant curator for Egyptian antiquities at the Stibbert Museum, Florence, Italy, member of the Nuri Archaeological Expedition.
