EGYPTIAN LAPIS LAZULI STOPPER OF CANOPIC JAR WITH HUMAN-HEADED IMSETY
New Kingdom, Ca. 1279 - 1152 BC. A lapis lazuli stopper from a canopic jar. It is carved in the form of the human-headed deity Imsety, one of the Four Sons of Horus. Canopic jars were used to store and protect the internal organs of the deceased during mummification. The jar with an Imsety stopper would typically hold the liver. This piece is accompanied by a modern custom-made stand. Size: 150mm x 60mm; Weight: 210g. Provenance: Prince collection, 1990s-2014; Ex. Nagel Auktionen Sale 50T, 27 May 2008, Lot 3416. This item has been cleared against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter. This piece is accompanied by an authentication report by Simone Musso, consultant curator for Egyptian antiquities at the Stibbert Museum, Florence, Italy, member of the Nuri Archaeological Expedition.
