WESTERN ASIATIC BRONZE HORSE BIT WITH HORSE-SHAPED PANELS
Ca. 900 - 700 BC. A cast bronze horse bit composed of a rectangular-section shank with its ends flattened to form loops. Each end is fitted with an openwork plaque depicting a horse standing atop an integral base bar. The animal’s head is held high, with a short, curved snout and small, rounded ears. The body is stocky, with well-defined muscular contours and a broad chest. The legs are sturdy, positioned in a walking stance with bent knees. The tail is raised and curves downward, connecting to the base.Size: 80mm x 200mm; Weight: 460gProvenance: Property of an Oxfordshire art professional; previously in an old British collection, formed in the 1980s on the UK / International art markets.
