EGYPTIAN OBSIDIAN HEAD OF THE GOD HORUS THE CHILD - EX. CHARLES EDE
28th - 29th Dynasty, Ca. 404 - 380 BC. A finely worked obsidian head depicting a priest, with a smooth, rounded cranium and subtly defined facial features. The almond-shaped eyes are slightly asymmetrical, with faintly incised eyebrows. The nose is broad and gently sloping, leading down to full lips that are slightly parted. The cheeks are softly contoured, merging into a rounded chin. A short, thick neck connects to a partial bust, with a curved collarbone and a draped garment. Christie's, Live Auction, 14231 Antiquities, Lot. 99. Size: 80mm x 30mm; Weight: 150g Provenance: Prince collection, 1990s-2014; Ex. Charles Ede Ltd., 10 March 2007. This item has been cleared against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter. Exhibited: Ancient Egypt: Masterpieces from Collectors and Collections, (5th June - 10th June 2012) Brussels, Belgium. This piece is accompanied by an authentication report from Simone Musso, consultant curator for Egyptian antiquities at the Stibbert Museum, Florence, Italy, member of the Nuri Archaeological Expedition.
