EGYPTIAN CARNELIAN FINIAL CARVED IN HIGH RELIEF WITH FOUR HUMAN OR DIVINE HEADS
12th Dynasty, 1938 - 1759 BC. A carnelian finial of globular form with four heads carved in high relief, each facing outward. The faces are rounded with almond-shaped eyes, straight noses, and slightly parted lips. Each head is framed by a centrally parted striated wig extending down the sides. A vertical perforation runs through the centre for attachment. Reviewed by Simone Musso, consultant curator for Egyptian antiquities at the Stibbert Museum, Florence, Italy, member of the Nuri Archaeological Expedition.
