EGYPTIAN CARNELIAN FINIAL CARVED IN HIGH RELIEF WITH FOUR HUMAN OR DIVINE HEADS
12th Dynasty, 1938 - 1759 BC. A carnelian finial of globular form with four heads carved in high relief, each facing outward. The faces are rounded with almond-shaped eyes, straight noses, and slightly parted lips. Each head is framed by a centrally parted striated wig extending down the sides. A vertical perforation runs through the centre for attachment. Reviewed by Simone Musso, consultant curator for Egyptian antiquities at the Stibbert Museum, Florence, Italy, member of the Nuri Archaeological Expedition. Size: 18mm x 10mm; Weight: 3g Provenance: Prince collection, 1990s-2014; Ex. Sotheby's, Sale 8688, 08 December 2010, lot 83. This item has been cleared against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter.
