A GOLD RING WITH TURQUOISE CABOCHON, POSSIBLY LATE SELJUK/EARLY TIMURID
Ca. 13th-14th century AD . A gold ring of rectangular form, the bezel set with a large cabochon turquoise stone, secured by four pronounced claw-like prongs at each corner. The gold mount is engraved with intricate foliate and geometric motifs, further accentuated by subtle niello inlay. The shank is slightly tapering, with a smooth interior, while the exterior is decorated with finely engraved architectural motifs reminiscent of Safavid tilework.Size: D:14.88mm / US: 3 3/4 / UK: H; Weight: 3gProvenance: Property of a London Islamic art specialist collector; previously in a collection formed since the 1980s.
