Bidspirit auction | A MAMLUK OR TIMURID LARGE

A MAMLUK OR TIMURID LARGE BRONZE INSCRIBED RITUAL BASIN - Egypt or Syria, Ca. 15th century AD. A bronze ritual basin of hemispherical form, resting on three short conical feet. The broad everted rim with four evenly spaced angular projections, each bearing incised Arabic inscriptions in elegant thuluth script, the darkened patina revealing traces of original gilding. Two of the lobed extensions surmounted by small standing human figures, their features now worn but retaining vestiges of their original form. The interior exhibits a rich green patination, a testament to age and long use. The overall design suggests a ceremonial function, possibly linked to purification rituals or courtly banquets.Size: 430mm x 245mm; Weight: 6.47kgProvenance: Previous property of a UK based Islamic art professional.
