A SAMANID OR QARAKHANID SLIP PAINTED BOWL WITH KUFIC INSCRIPTION - Eastern Iran or Central Asia, Ca. 11th - 12th century AD. A finely potted bowl decorated in a cream slip with bold black and red-brown slip-painted designs beneath a transparent glaze. The central motif features a band of abstracted Kufic script, likely containing blessings or well-wishes, flanked by decorative flourishes and stylised vegetal elements. A repeating Kufic inscription adorns the wide rim, executed with rhythmic precision. The decorative scheme and use of dark manganese and iron-based pigments align with ceramics produced in the Nishapur or Samarqand regions, known for their expressive calligraphic wares.Size: 200mm x 35mm; Weight: 300gProvenance: Previous property of a UK based Islamic art professional.
