AN OTTOMAN BRONZE BIRD-SHAPED EWER
Ottoman, Turkey, Ca. AD 16th - 17th century. A fine bronze ewer in the form of a standing bird, cast from copper alloy using the lost-wax technique. The avian figure has a pair of narrow feet, rigid tail feathers and triangular wings. Its small head has circular eyes set in front of a narrow, tapered beak. The head protrudes from a conical, decorated neck. Size: 350mm x 300mm; Weight: 1.96kgProvenance: Property of an Oxfordshire art professional; previously in an old British collection, formed in the 1980s on the UK / International art markets. This item has been cleared against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter. This piece is accompanied by a historical report from Alessandro Neri, an international Cultural Heritage expert based in Florence, Italy.
