A SET OF THREE QAJAR EROTIC WATERCOLOUR PAINTINGS - Qajar, Iran, Ca. 19th century AD. A finely painted miniature of rectangular form, each in opaque watercolours on paper, mounted in a giltwood frame. The scenes depict intimate encounters in the refined tradition of Persian and Ottoman erotic manuscript painting. The first composition presents a couple reclining on a low wooden bed, their figures softly shaded, set against an ochre-toned background reminiscent of Safavid and Qajar period manuscript illuminations. The second painting, rendered with vibrant naturalistic elements, portrays a lovers' embrace beneath a tree, evoking themes of sensuality and romance prevalent in Ottoman courtly depictions. The final scene, framed within a richly draped interior, showcases an amorous couple. Size: 320-320mm x 260-270mm; Weight: 1.9kgProvenance: Previous property of a UK based Islamic art professional.
