ROMAN GOLD RING WITH DARK STONE INTAGLIO DEPICTING CUPID
Ca. 100 BC - AD 100. A dark stone intaglio engraved with nude Cupid in profile playing a double flute (aulos). The stone is housed in a high rectangular box bezel framed by a granulated border. The flat-sectioned hoop secures the bezel between voluted terminals.Size: D:18.54mm / US: 8 1/2 / UK: Q 1/2; Weight: 5.41gProvenance: Private London collection; previously French art market 1970s/1980s. This item has been cleared against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter.
