CHINESE BLUE AND WHITE FIGURAL SNUFF BOTTLE, DEPICTING THE INVASION OF EIGHT BANNERS - Qing Dynasty, Ca. AD 1644 - 1912. > An engaging pair of porcelain snuff bottles of ovoid form with short cylindrical necks, each painted in underglaze cobalt blue on a white ground with animated figural scenes. The decoration depicts the historical theme of the “Eight Banners Entering the Capital” (”八旗进京” 图), referring to the Manchu military forces whose entry into Beijing marked the establishment of Qing rule in 1644.
