CHINESE BLUE AND WHITE SNUFF BOTTLE, DEPICTING SCENE FROM JOURNEY TO THE WEST - Qing Dynasty, Ca. AD 1644 - 1912. > A porcelain snuff bottle of rounded cylindrical form with a short neck, decorated in underglaze cobalt blue on a white ground with a lively narrative scene drawn from the classic Ming dynasty novel Journey to the West (西游记). The exterior depicts a group of figures identifiable as members of the pilgrim party, likely including the monk Xuanzang (Tang Sanzang) accompanied by his supernatural disciples. Figures appear animated in gesture, representing the mischievous Monkey King (Sun Wukong) and the Monk Pig (Zhu Bajie), while swirling cloud motifs above suggest a celestial or magical setting.
