CHINESE IRON RED DECORATED CUP, DEPICTING THE EIGHT AUSPICIOUS SYMBOLS - . > A porcelain cup of slightly flared form, resting on a neatly trimmed foot, and decorated in a lively overglaze enamel palette dominated by iron-red. The exterior is adorned with elements of the Eight Auspicious Symbols (八吉祥)—including the endless knot, wheel, conch, and other emblems—interspersed with scrolling clouds rendered in soft famille-style enamels of green, yellow, and aubergine. The motifs are animated yet balanced, floating across the white ground with a sense of rhythm and lightness. A band of stylized leiwen (key fret) pattern encircles the rim in iron-red, while a ruyi-head border decorates the lower register above the foot, providing a structured frame to the central decoration. The Eight Auspicious Symbols, derived from Buddhist iconography, represent blessings such as longevity, prosperity, harmony, and spiritual attainment. > Provenance: Private UK Collection. > > Size: 50mm x 58mm; Weight: 40g > This item has been cleared against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter. >
