CHINESE BLUE AND WHITE SNUFF BOTTLE WITH ‘DOUBLE DRAGONS PLAYING WITH A PEARL’ - Qing Dynasty, Ca. AD 1644 - 1912. > A porcelain snuff bottle of baluster form, rising from a neatly finished foot to a tall, slender neck with a slightly flared rim. The body is decorated in underglaze cobalt blue. The main register is painted with the classic motif of two dragons contesting or playing with a flaming pearl. The paired dragons are shown in dynamic confrontation, their elongated bodies coiling amidst stylized clouds as they reach toward the central pearl. Their animated poses, clawed limbs, and expressive heads convey energy and movement, while the surrounding cloud scrolls create a sense of celestial space.
