SMALL CHINESE YIXING TEAPOT, SIGNED MENGCHEN 孟臣 - Ca. 20th century AD. >A Yixing teapot of rounded, compressed globular form, raised on three small cabriole feet. The body supports a gently domed cover with a rounded knop, while the short, tapering spout and circular loop handle are balanced in harmonious proportion. The tripod base lends the vessel a subtle elevation and sculptural presence, distinguishing it from more standard forms. The teapot is executed in a warm reddish zisha clay, with a softly burnished surface that has developed areas of darker patination through handling and use. The clay’s fine texture and even tone reflect careful preparation and skilled firing, while the form itself adheres to the restrained elegance associated with literati taste. The base bears a poetic inscription 山水之中做主人 and the signature 孟臣, which may be translated as: “To be master amidst mountains and waters - Mengchen.” >Provenance: Private UK Collection. >>Size: 75mm x 130mm; Weight: 120g >This item has been cleared against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter. >
