SINO-TIBETAN BRONZE YABYUM OF VAJRASATTVA AND CONSORT - Qianlong Period, Ca. AD 1736 - 1795. > A cast Sino-Tibetan bronze group depicting Vajrasattva in yab-yum (union) with his consort, seated in vajraparyankasana upon a double-lotus base. The principal deity is shown embracing the consort, symbolising the union of wisdom (prajna) and method (upaya), a central concept in Vajrayana Buddhist practice. Vajrasattva is adorned with an elaborate crown and rich jewellery including necklaces, armlets, and anklets, his torso sensitively modelled and his expression serene. He holds a vajra in his right hand and a bell (ghanta) in his left, the attributes of enlightened awareness and wisdom. The consort, seated astride his lap, mirrors the embrace, her arms wrapped around the deity, her form gracefully rendered with refined proportions and delicate ornamentation. Both figures are crowned and richly attired, with finely detailed hair arrangements and beaded ornaments. > Provenance: Private London Collection; Ex. J.A.N.
