BRONZE AND CAST IRON PHURBU, TIBETAN OR NEPALESE - Ca. 16th century AD. > A finely cast ritual phurba (kila), composed of a handle and a trihedral blade, the shaft surmounted by a wrathful deity head beneath a foliate crown. The deity’s fierce expression, with bulging eyes and bared teeth, embodies the subjugation of negative forces. Below the head, the grip is formed by a vajra (thunderbolt) motif, symbolising indestructibility and spiritual power. The midsection features openwork prongs and ring elements, while the lower register is decorated with further vajra forms and stylised motifs, culminating in a sharply tapered, three-sided blade designed for ritual use rather than practical cutting. > Provenance: Private Collection of Ramchandra Rijal, acquired in 1990s. > > Size: 280mm x 35mm; Weight: 395g > This item has been cleared against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter. >
