TIBETAN GILDED COPPER ALLOY CROWNED BUDDHA SHAKYAMUNI - Ca. 15th century AD. > A finely cast and richly gilded copper alloy figure of the Crowned Buddha Shakyamuni, seated in vajraparyankasana (full lotus posture). The right hand is extended in bhumisparsha mudra (earth-touching gesture), while the left rests in the lap in dhyana mudra, signifying the moment of enlightenment beneath the Bodhi tree. Distinctively, the Buddha is shown wearing an elaborate five-leaf crown and princely ornaments, including beaded necklaces, armlets, and a flowing sash draped elegantly across the torso. This “crowned Buddha” form reflects a tantric interpretation in which Shakyamuni is visualized not as an ascetic renunciant but as a fully enlightened, sovereign being embodying both spiritual and worldly perfection. The face is sensitively modeled, with gently downcast eyes, arched brows, and a subtle urna, conveying a calm, introspective expression.
