RARE CENTRAL TIBETAN SEATED FIGURE OF KUNZANG AKOR, BON DEITY - Ca. 14th century AD. > A finely cast copper alloy figure depicting Kunzang Akor, seated in serene meditation upon a well-articulated double-lotus base. The deity is shown in vajraparyankasana (full lotus posture), with hands resting in the lap in dhyana mudra, conveying a state of profound contemplative stillness. Kunzang Akor is the meditational form of Shenlha Okar, a central primordial deity within the Bon religious tradition. He is typically identified by the presence of the Tibetan letter “A” at the heart center—symbolizing the primordial, unconditioned state. In canonical representations, the hands hold the stems of two lotus blossoms rising at either side, supporting a yungdrung (eternal swastika) on the right and a ritual vase on the left, both potent symbols within Bon cosmology. While these attributes are not always preserved or visible in sculptural form, their conceptual presence remains integral to the deity’s identity. The figure is richly adorned with an elaborate crown, beaded jewelry, and finely detailed ornaments, reflecting both divine and regal iconography.
