CENTRAL INDIAN SANDSTONE OF A LION - Ca. 11th - 12th century AD. > A carved sandstone sculpture depicting a recumbent lion, shown with forelegs raised and head lifted in a dynamic, alert posture. The stylised features include a pronounced open mouth, incised detailing along the mane and body, and a curled tail forming a loop over the back, lending the figure a rhythmic and decorative quality. The lion is rendered in a compact, muscular form, with incised linear patterns emphasising the contours of the body and suggesting a harness or ornamental trappings.
