INDIAN GUPTA SILVER-INLAID BRONZE SEATED FIGURE OF BUDDHA SHAKYAMUNI - Ca. 6th - 7th century AD. > A cast bronze figure of Buddha Shakyamuni seated in dhyanasana (meditative posture) upon a stepped pedestal. The hands are held in dhyana mudra, resting in the lap, symbolising meditation and spiritual concentration. The figure is rendered with the classical elegance associated with Gupta-period sculpture: a slender, well-proportioned body, gently rounded shoulders, and a serene, introspective expression. The face is softly modelled with downcast eyes, a subtle smile, and elongated earlobes, while the hair is arranged in small curls surmounted by a domed ushnisha. The monastic robe is indicated by a thin, clinging line across the torso, revealing the contours of the body beneath—a hallmark of Gupta aesthetic refinement.
