CHINESE JADE FANG BI PLAQUE WITH DRAGONS - Ming Dynasty, Ca. AD 1368 - 1644, or earlier. > A carved jade fang bi of rectangular form with a central aperture, the stone with natural inclusions. Both sides are intricately worked in openwork and relief with sinuous chilong dragons, their coiling bodies interspersed with scrolling cloud motifs and pierced elements, creating a lively and layered composition. The dragons are depicted with expressive heads and curling tails, their forms seamlessly integrated into the surrounding reticulated design. The carving displays a combination of rounded modelling and carved piercing, producing depth and shadow that enhance the visual complexity of the plaque. > Provenance: Private British Collection; Ex.
