AFRICAN FERTILITY DOLL - Ca. late 19th - early 20th century AD. > A fertility doll of wood and organic materials, the figure with a rounded head encrusted with shells and small applied elements, above a cylindrical neck encircled by dark rings and suspending numerous strands of beads forming a skirt-like body. The assemblage combines glass beads, shell, and fibre, creating a dense and tactile surface. > Provenance: Prince collection, 1990s-2014; Ex.
