GROUP OF LIBERIAN TOMA PASSPORT MASKS - Ca. late 19th - early 20th century AD. > A group comprising three carved wooden miniature masks of elongated form, each with distinctive stylised features. One example is surmounted by a crest-like coiffure with projecting elements, the face simplified with a broad forehead and angular nose; another displays a more refined, narrow visage with a serrated or crown-like headdress and incised geometric ornament across the cheeks and chin; the third is smaller and more compact, with worn features and traces of attachment suggesting former suspension. > Provenance: Prince collection, 1990s-2014; Ex.
