EGYPTIAN UPPER PART OF AN ANTHROPOID COFFIN - Late Period to Ptolemaic Period, Ca. 664 - 30 BC. An upper section of an anthropoid wood coffin with a stucco overlay and painted decoration. The face is painted red, with large almond-shaped eyes outlined in black, arched brows, a broad nose, and a small, closed mouth. A black tripartite wig frames the face and falls onto the chest. The chest is adorned with a broad usekh collar of multiple rows, decorated with rosettes, plant motifs, and teardrop-shaped pendants, centred by a counterpoise. At the shoulders the collar terminates in falcon heads, originally surmounted by sun disks. The reverse is plain. For the usekh collar, see: S.
