HELLENO-ROMAN BRONZE LEFT FOREARM OF A BOXER WEARING A CAESTUS - Ca. 300 - 50 BC. A hollow bronze left forearm and hand of a boxer wearing a caestus, the formidable fighting glove. The forearm is encased in crossing himantes, with three thick corded bands encircling the lower arm. The open hand is cast with long, separate fingers and an extended thumb. Across the knuckles is a broad rectangular guard, fastened by straps and set with raised studs arranged in compact clusters.
