ROMAN SILVER BOWL WITH VICTORY FIGURES CROWNING AN EAGLE - Ca. AD 1 - 200. A silver bowl with a broad shallow body and a plain everted rim. The body is formed with a series of long lobes radiating around the central medallion, each division near the rim marked by a cluster of three bosses. The medallion is enclosed by a narrow raised border with an incised repeating pattern. At the centre, an eagle is depicted in three-quarter view, standing on a branch, with its head turned to the side. It is flanked by two winged and draped Victory figures crowning it with a laurel wreath. Size: 215mm x 45mm; Weight: 360g Provenance: Private UK collection; acquired on the London art market; formerly with R. Unger, Parthenon gallery, 1990s. This piece is accompanied by a historical report from Alessandro Neri, an international Cultural Heritage expert based in Florence, Italy.
