Sefer T'nach   One Volume   Paris. 1556. Printed by Robertos Stefens ll

This is an extremely early example of the T'nach printed in France and interestingly includes Rashi, the famous commentary.  Rav Shloime Yitzchaki (Rashi)  is known here as Shloime Yarchi, possibly one of the last times seen using that name. Other commentaries are the Even Ezrah and the Radak Rav David Kimchi.  The forward is written by the Radak.

Robert Estienne (also called Stephanus), of the famous family of French printers. He fled Paris and his son took over .Robert Estienne II (1530–1570) studied Hebrew as his father recommended. Uninterested in the Reformation, he stayed in Paris instead of following his father to Geneva, opening his own printing shop in 1556. This edition must have been one of his first that he printed with the great Jewish Rabbis as commentaries. He earned the title of Typographus regius in 1563. Estienne printed books in Hebrew for professors in Paris, but fled to Geneva in 1569, because he worked for Anglican clients. He died in 1570.

Good condition, slightly damaged, rebound.

Height 22cm
