GIBSON & Sons CHINA 23cm BLUE/WHITE WILLOW PATTERN DESIGN LIDDED SERVING DISH
(From 1875 Samuel Gibson was in partnership with Robert Sudlow as Gibson, Sudlow & Co. at Bourne's Bank, Burslem. In October 1884 the partnership was dissolved and both men started seperate businesses.
From 1885 Samuel Gibson traded as Gibson & Sons at the Albany Potteries, Moorland Road, Burslem. The works were progressivly developed and became the Albany & Harvey Potteries.
Gibson & Sons became a limited company in 1905 and then traded as Gibson & Sons Ltd. Samuel Gibson was the chairman and managing director. "Four of his sons, Messrs. A. H., F. W., Sydney, and Ernest Gibson, actively assist him in the conduct of the concern."
By 1906 they gave "employment to about five hundred hands". Producers of dinner and tea wares, they were particularly known for teapot manufacture. c.1907-1910 they manufactured the 'Largest Teapot in the World', this held 1024 cups of tea.
The works continued to develop and sometime between 1900 and 1925 a new factory had been built in Harvey Street this was then called the Harvey Pottery and the adjacent works on Moorland Road called the Albany Pottery.)
