EARLY MATCH HOLDER ITEM FROM THE VESSEL HMS BIRMINGHAM
Unusual item to have come across which is a superb match holder barrel item with a striker base, which has been hand made out of wood. It is set on a table plinth and the whole item is made from the original battleships timbers of the old vessel HMS BIRMINGHAM. There is a plaque attached to the piece with inscription and the size is 5" (13.5cm) high and it is in a fantastic condition.
[HMS Birmingham was lead ship of the Birmingham group of three ships of the "Town" class of light cruisers built by the Royal Navy. Her sister ships were Lowestoft and Nottingham. The three ships were virtually identical to the third group of "Town" ships, but with an additional 6 in (150 mm) gun worked in on the forecastle.]
