SOUVENIR OAK SPOON STAND FROM THE SS LEICESTERSHIRE 1948
Wooden oak 'spoon stand' showing nice brass 'wheel spokes' at the top which is from the vessel the SS Leicestershire of the Bibby Line and was built in 1948. From the picture provided you will notice the delicate houseflag at the top of the item, which is in full colour and also reads 'SS Leicestershire' and the size of the stand is approx. 6" x 6" (15cm x 15cm).
[S Heraklion was built as the SS Leicestershire by Fairfield Shipbuilding and Engineering Company in Glasgow in 1949, for the Bibby Line to operate the UK to Burma route. She was chartered to the British India Line for some time to supplement its London to East Africa service. In 1964 she was sold to the Aegean Steam Navigation Co to operate under their Typaldos Line, renamed SS Heraklion. Once Typaldos Line took ownership, she was refitted as a passenger/car ferry.]
