Maling Pottery Earthenware Bird and Peony Pattern Jug Pattern Number 3305 26cm high - A Maling earthenware pitcher of bulbous form featuring a wide flared spout and a single scrolling handle. The exterior is decorated in a Chinoiserie style with a Bird and Peony motif, depicting a bird of paradise perched amongst large red peonies, purple anemones, and green foliage. The decoration is executed using blue transfer-printed outlines with hand-painted polychrome enamel infill. A repeating scalloped and beaded border in blue and purple is present to the inner and outer rim and around the base. The handle is further embellished with a floral spray. The base bears a blue printed mark consisting of the word MALING curved above a circular emblem containing a stylised three-towered castle, with CASTLE ON TYNE and ENGLAND below. The pattern number 3305 is hand-painted in reddish-brown enamel to the base.
