A 19th Century Pine Sailor's Sea Chest - A Victorian sailor's sea chest constructed from pine with a dark stained and waxed finish. The main body is assembled with large exposed through-dovetail joints at the corners. The sides are fitted with hand-carved rectangular wooden cleats featuring incised diamond decoration within double-line borders, which secure the traditional rope handles or beckets. The flat lid is finished with simple rounded moulding to the front and side edges. The interior is unfinished and contains a side till with a small secondary drawer located beneath it, accessed by a brass pull knob. Hardware includes heavy-duty iron butt hinges and a single iron mortise lock to the front.
