An English Art Deco hand-painted earthenware circular sewing box 22x14cm WH - An English Art Deco circular sewing box of tapering form, the earthenware body set within metal-mounted rims with a hinged lid and front-facing latch. The exterior is hand-painted in a polychrome floral pattern with large stylized chrysanthemums and butterfly wings set against a cobalt blue ground, with blue and purple wave-scroll borders to the upper and lower edges. The domed lid is fitted with a geometric T-shaped ceramic finial and opens to a cream-glazed interior. The base features a green transfer-printed mark reading MADE IN ENGLAND arranged in a curve, beside a hand-painted purple character C. and a hand-painted black character resembling a stylized A. The underside of the lid is marked with a hand-painted red character V, a small horizontal black stroke, and two black dots.
