A Pair of Hand-Carved Oak Figures in Traditional Breton Regional Costume 35cm tall - A pair of hand-carved dark oak figures representing a man and a woman in traditional 19th-century Breton regional costume. The male figure is depicted wearing a broad-brimmed hat, a short open jacket over a buttoned waistcoat, and voluminous bragou braz breeches, whilst holding a walking staff. The female figure is depicted wearing a regional coiffe headdress, a large pleated collar, a laced bodice, and a long apron over a full skirt, whilst holding a closed umbrella. Both figures are positioned on integral rectangular plinths carved with a stylized brickwork pattern. The carvings are executed in a folk-art style with textured detailing to the garments and finished with a dark, uniform stain. There are no maker's marks, signatures, or labels visible on the sculptures.
