A Collection of Late 19th and Early 20th Century Glass Apothecary Bottles and Jars - An assortment of antique glass apothecary and pharmaceutical containers, including clear and amber glass examples. The group features several large clear glass bottles with spherical ground glass stoppers, one bearing a white shield-shaped label with a red border and gilt edges reading LIQ: EXT:GLYCYR: and another reading ESS: ANISI. Two medium clear glass bottles with ground glass stoppers are labelled OL: CARYOPH: and OL: CARUI. A further clear glass bottle with a flat ground glass stopper is labelled PULV: IPECAC:. The collection also includes smaller amber glass jars with adhesive paper labels. One features a heavily worn yellow label reading CODEINA in black serif type. Another amber jar has a dark label with a decorative geometric border reading CALCI..., and a third is partially labelled ...LACT. A small clear glass jar is fitted with a turned wooden lid and cork bung. A small, square-section clear glass bottle is present without a label or stopper. The labels are a mixture of printed paper and gilt-bordered shield designs, using standard Latin pharmaceutical abbreviations. The glass displays characteristics of hand-blown and early machine-molded construction, including ground pontils or bases and ground glass necks for airtight seals.
