Bidspirit auction | A Capodimonte hand-painted ceramic figure
A Capodimonte hand-painted ceramic figure of King Henry VIII by Marcato 39cm - An Italian hand-painted glazed ceramic figurine of King Henry VIII, depicted in full Tudor regalia. The standing figure is shown in a characteristic pose inspired by the portraits of Hans Holbein the Younger, wearing a wide-brimmed hat with a feather, an ornate doublet decorated with jewels and chains of office, and a voluminous fur-lined surcoat. He holds a glove in his right hand and rests his left hand on his sword hilt. The figure stands on a square-patterned plinth integrated into a stepped circular base featuring the name HENRY VIII in raised, dark-outlined relief letters. The underside of the base features a printed blue circular backstamp featuring a crown symbol above the letter N and the word CAPODIMONTE curved along the bottom edge. Also present are the hand-painted gold characters iT47 and MADE IN ITALY, alongside a signature in black script reading Marcato.
