AN ISLAMIC SILVER ENGRAVED CARNELIAN TALISMANIC RING. - A silver-mounted seal ring featuring an oval carnelian agate plaque. The stone is translucent orange-red and is intaglio-engraved with several registers of Islamic devotional calligraphy. The upper register contains the names Allah, Muhammad, and Ali. The middle register features the names Fatima, Hasan, and Husayn, completing the Panj-tan-e-Pak (the Five Holy Ones), central to Shia Islam. The lower register is inscribed with the invocation La fata illa Ali la saif illa dhul-fiqar (There is no hero but Ali, there is no sword but Zulfiqar). The engraved characters are filled with a white pigment to enhance legibility against the stone. The carnelian is set within a heavy, hand-wrought silver bezel mount with a plain, tapered shank.
