AN ISLAMIC SILVER AND CARNELIAN INTAGLIO SIGNET RING. - An Islamic signet-style ring featuring a large, oval carnelian (aqeeq) stone. The stone is of a translucent brownish-orange colour and is set within a high-walled, polished rub-over bezel setting. The face of the carnelian is deeply incised with stylised calligraphic script, likely in Arabic or Persian, which has been filled with a black pigment for legibility. Such calligraphy is characteristic of talismanic or seal rings from the Islamic world. The band consists of a plain, rounded D-section shank crafted from silver with a polished finish.
