AN ISLAMIC SILVER AND INTAGLIO-CARVED CARNELIAN SIGNET RING WITH MAKER'S MARK FOR SHA'BAN. - An Islamic signet-style ring crafted from silver, featuring a large oval cabochon carnelian. The stone, traditionally referred to as aqeeq, is a translucent, deep reddish-orange colour and features fine intaglio-carved Arabic calligraphy arranged in multiple registers divided by a central horizontal line. The ring is set in a decorative bezel with a repeating pierced foliate motif. The shoulders of the shank are decorated with a stippled or beaded pattern. An oval hallmark is struck on the interior of the shank containing the name Sha'ban (شعبان) in Arabic script, identifying the maker or workshop.
