Bidspirit auction | AN ISLAMIC CARNELIAN AGATE TALISMANIC

AN ISLAMIC CARNELIAN AGATE TALISMANIC PLAQUE WITH QURANIC CALLIGRAPHY. - An Islamic talismanic plaque of circular form, crafted from a translucent reddish-orange carnelian agate. The stone is intricately engraved with multiple registers of calligraphic Arabic script infilled with white pigment to enhance legibility. The central oval medallion bears the Quranic verse (61:13), Nasrun min Allahi wa fathun qarib, which translates as Victory from Allah and a near conquest. This central motif is surrounded by three concentric bands of fine script containing the Muawwidhatayn (Verses of Refuge) and other foundational surahs, specifically Surah Al-Ikhlas (Chapter 112), Surah Al-Falaq (Chapter 113), and Surah An-Nas (Chapter 114). The calligraphy is executed in a precise naskh or thuluth style, punctuated by decorative beaded borders and small floral motifs. The reverse of the stone is typically left unadorned to allow light to pass through the translucent agate. Pieces of this nature were frequently used as protective amulets or devotional objects within the Persian and Ottoman worlds. Approximately 8.8 x 7.9cm
