AN ISLAMIC WHITE METAL SIGNET RING WITH YELLOW AGATE INSCRIBED WITH SURAH AL-IKHLAS. - A contemporary Persian signet ring featuring a substantial white metal mount with a polished, faceted finish. The ring is set with an oval cabochon yellow agate, or aqeeq, of translucent honey-toned colour. The face of the gemstone is deeply engraved in intaglio with calligraphic Arabic script, arranged in two registers and separated by a central horizontal rule. The inscription contains the complete text of Surah Al-Ikhlas (The Sincerity), chapter 112 of the Quran. The recessed characters have been highlighted with a dark pigment or infill to increase contrast and legibility against the yellow ground. The band is broad and tapers towards the base, characterised by flat-faceted sides.
