AN INDIAN CAST BRONZE MODEL OF A CEREMONIAL ELEPHANT WITH MAHOUT AND HOWDAH, 19TH-20TH CENTURY. - A cast copper-alloy sculpture of a ceremonial elephant, likely originating from North India and dating to the 19th or early 20th century. The figure is depicted standing on a rectangular plinth with stepped and tiered moulding. The elephant is embellished with detailed incised decorative trappings, including a patterned headpiece and a lattice-work saddlecloth, or jhul. Seated upon the elephant's neck is a mahout holding an ankusha, or elephant goad, in his right hand. Mounted on the animal's back is a formal howdah of architectural form, featuring a central onion dome surmounted by a finial, four corner finials, and open sides with lobed arches reflecting Mughal-influenced design.  H: Approximately 24cm
