A PAIR OF INDO-PERSIAN GOLD DAMASCENED STEEL CALLIGRAPHY SCISSORS, 19TH CENTURY. - This pair of calligraphy scissors is manufactured from darkened steel with comprehensive gold damascened (Koftgari) decoration. The object features two long, slender blades that taper to sharp points. The exterior spines of the blades and the length of the handles are ornamented with intricate, continuous scrolling foliate and floral rinceau patterns in gold inlay. The handles terminate in open teardrop-shaped finger loops. At the junction where the blades and handles meet, there are two raised circular bosses, each decorated with a gold-inlaid sunburst motif. The blades are joined by a central gold-coloured pivot pin. L: Approximately 25.7cm
