A MUGHAL JADE DAGGER HILT WITH LION-HEAD POMMEL, 19TH CENTURY OR LATER. - A carved nephrite jade dagger hilt, likely for a khanjar, executed in the Northern Indian Mughal tradition. The zoomorphic hilt features a pommel in the form of a lion's head, depicted in profile with an open mouth and bared teeth. The mane is intricately rendered with overlapping incised locks. The slightly curved grip includes subtle undulating recesses for an ergonomic hold. The flared base is decorated with a foliate or lotus-head motif in low relief, bordered by raised bands at the junctions of the pommel and the base. The stone is of a pale celadon or greyish-green colour with a polished finish.  L: Approximately 13.2cm
