Bidspirit auction | AN INDIAN MUGHAL-STYLE KUNDAN-INLAID WHITE

AN INDIAN MUGHAL-STYLE KUNDAN-INLAID WHITE JADE PLAQUE. - A circular white jade nephrite plaque of lobed form, featuring a rectangular lug at the top. The front face is ornately decorated using the kundan technique, with gold wire inlays forming a central flowering plant flanked by two perching birds. The floral motifs are set with polished pinkish-red gemstones each centred with a clear stone, possibly rock crystal or diamond. The foliage and bird bodies are further accented with almond-shaped clear stone inlays. The entire composition is framed by a delicate gold-inlaid border following the scalloped edge of the plaque. The reverse of the plaque is undecorated, revealing the translucent, milky-white quality of the stone with natural clouded inclusions and minor iron-staining. The presence of the top lug suggests this piece may have been intended as a pendant or an inset for a larger decorative object, such as a box lid or furniture panel.  Approximately 7.7 x 7.2cm
