A LATE OTTOMAN ILLUMINATED CALLIGRAPHIC LEVHA, SIGNED AL-FALAKI AND DATED AH 1325. - A professionally framed illuminated calligraphic panel, known as a levha, of late Ottoman origin. The central composition features a calligram in the form of a pear (armut). The body of the pear contains the Islamic devotional invocation Ya Hannan, Ya Mannan (O Compassionate, O Bestower) executed in a bold black Thuluth script. Two smaller leaf-like forms above the pear and the surrounding area are filled with fine Arabic calligraphy. The central motif is enclosed within an elaborate illuminated border in the Ottoman Rococo style. This border consists of an arch of polychrome floral sprays including roses and carnations amidst scrolling green foliage. At the base, two golden cornucopias spill out floral elements, meeting at a central yellow ribbon bow and garland. The work is executed in ink and gouache on paper. It is mounted with a black border and housed in a modern silver-toned metallic frame. A small calligraphic signature block is located at the bottom centre. The script includes the name or title al-Falaki and the Arabic numerals 1325, corresponding to the Hijri year 1325 (approximately 1907-1908 AD). Approximately 34 x 29cm
